Jenna and Trevor I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with your dad for 15 years in two different offices. He enjoyed connecting with students. If he knew one of their families was in need of something, he would find a way to meet that need. When you came into his office after school, you could tell he liked seeing you and that he was a good dad. He made the office staff laugh and lightened our day. Cherish your memories of him.

Jenna and Trevor,
When I came back to Delaware Valley in an administrative role, the first person I met was your dad. He welcomed me with open arms and was willing to help me settle into my new role, showing me around the Dingmans Campus and sharing his experiences. Since that day, Mark has been a great friend, enjoying time both at work and outside. His sense of humor made me laugh each and every time and his loyalty as a friend will never be forgotten. I am truly sorry for your loss of a good man and father. Rest easy my friend!

To make a friend in kindergarten and keep that friend for over 58 years is very special. That was Mark and myself. Friends all through grade school, high school and roommates at Penn State. He made me laugh. A lot! Whoever was around Mark, laughed. And with being friends for all those years comes with a ton of stories and shenanigans. Although our lives took different paths we stayed in touch. When we talked on the phone, we laughed. When we had lunch, we laughed. Mark was my best friend. I will miss him dearly. To Jenna and Trevor, please know your dad loved you both dearly and was so proud of your accomplishments. To Julie, Kelly and Becky, you know what your brother meant to me. Rest easy my friend. When I think of you, I will laugh!

Mark and I met in middle school, so that would be about 50 years ago! Friends through high school, we went on to Penn State, ending up as roommates one year; oh, the stories I could tell! The adventures that we shared are cherished memories...
Im sorry for your loss, Trevor and Jenna. Your Dad was one of a kind; a loyal friend, indeed...

Mark was one of my best friends and he made work a happy place. His world revolved around Jenna and Trevor. He was so proud of both of you. I could write a book of memories, thank god for them. Mark had the biggest heart I have ever encountered. My heart is broken. Fly high.

Mark McElroy was one of my favorite people to ever work with in all my years of teaching; I still tell stories about him to my husband. He was such a down to earth type of guy, and he never made you feel inferior, anxious, or depressed when you spoke to him.
I had many a great conversation with Mr. Mac—whether they were about work, life, or anything in between— Mark was the type to leader who made you feel relaxed. I guess that is because he did not think he was any better than you, or that he knew more than you did; rather, Mark was always there to help by lending his advice in a nonchalant way and assuring you that even if the sky was falling (or you felt like it was), it really wasn’t, and tomorrow would be okay.
With Mark, nothing was ever as “big a deal” as you made it out to be, and he had a way of building your confidence by calming you down and making you laugh. The stories he’d tell about his time in education should have been turned into a book!
He had an effortless sense of humor and could talk to anyone about anything. While I did not know his family, I recall an instance where I complimented a painting in his office; he proudly spoke of his daughter and discussed the art she made. “That’s the most expensive piece of art I own”, he joked, explaining that his daughter had made it in college. He seemed to be an attentive and loving father; these traits were recognized in his work life, as well, by all who had the pleasure to know him. He will be greatly missed. He is a the legend.

Jenna and Trevor,
My condolences on the loss of your father. I worked with Mark for over two decades at Delaware Valley. He was “one of the good guys”. Mark worked hard and always had the best interest of his students in mind. He had a tremendously large heart, was compassionate and was dedicated to those he served. The world is a better place because of Mark McElroy. He was my friend and I will miss him dearly.
