Barbara Johansson Obituary

Barbara Johansson, a former longtime resident of Washington Township NJ, died peacefully at the age of 89 in her newfound home of 5 years in Hemlock Farms on September 29, 2024 where she lived with her son.

Retired from the East Ramapo Central School District after a 30 year career teaching Home Economics at what was then named Spring Valley Junior High School, she and her late husband Richard were also longtime active members of the Ramapo Mountain Ski Club for many years.

The daughter of Harry J. and Edna Storms both of Port Jervis, she was born on February 8, 1935 in the Bronx. A lover of genealogy, her family surname Storms originates in America tracing back to Dirk Sturm (~1645) who lived in Brooklyn. This branch of the family eventually settled in Port Jervis to where the circle of life returns her in the end.

She is survived by her son Robert Kreisler and stepchildren Chris Johansson and Lise Johansson-Chanin.

Cremation will take place at MacLennan Hall Crematorium. Following cremation she will be laid to rest with her late husband Dick at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
