Please share a memory of Karen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Karen R. Petito, a lifetime resident of the area died on July 18, 2024 at home, surrounded by her family.  She was 72.

The daughter of the late Donald and Charlotte Houghtaling, she was born on June 4, 1952 in Port Jervis NY.

Those that knew Karen, know that she died after a valiant battle with cancer.  Through her cancer journey, she taught those around her what it looks like to live bravely and always living that with joy and a smile.  Her strong will to live and the love & prayers of her family and friends is what carried her through her months of treatments up till the end.

A family statement by her daughter Tonya reads: My mother was full of love, laughter and resilience.  She touched the lives of all who knew her.  She loved the holidays, most especially Christmas.  She always looked forward to picking out a big fresh Christmas tree with her family and decorating it with all the special ornaments she collected over the years.  The holidays will never be the same.  You will be missed tremendously!!

In addition to her parents Karen was predeceased in life by husband Rocco Petito, stepfather Delbert DeGroat and niece Salina Culver.

Beloved mother of Tonya Richard's and her husband Randy of Port Jervis.  Her "sweetie pie" Brock RIchards, her grandson whom she adored.  Dear sister of Ronald Houghtaling his wife Irene of Wittmann, AZ, Kevin Houghtaling his wife Susan of Middletown NY, Tammy Wykoff with her husband Bob of MIlford PA, and her "Baby Sister" Lisa Scheibner with her husband MIchael of Milford PA.  She was a beloved aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Your hug meant the world
No body else held me so tight
Or made me feel so right
No one's eyes shined so bright with love
As my mom, who is now high above
