Bill and my grandmother Rose Piatt were together all my life, until her death in November of 2010. They were never married, but they had a life together. Bill is in every memory I have from childhood. He went on vacations with us to the Long Beach Island New Jersey( they loved that place), He would buy board games, and we would sit and play them with us on Sunday Afternoon, after A spaghetti or meatloaf dinner. (Every Sunday it was spaghetti or meatloaf).
Bill and Rose were as opposite as could be, yet their relationship worked for them. He is the only person i know that would make hot chocolate with hot water from the tap, and swear up and down it was good.(the chocolate was chunky). Bill was kind of loaner, but to us he was family.
I love the smell of a freshly lit pipe, and it's because of him. He was quiet, and didn't express himself a lot, but if he cared he let you know in his own way. He was his own unique person, he was loved and he was the Love of my grandmother's life.
My children called him grandpa. The picture below is from Christmas 1999.
