Obituary of Betty Jean Halpin

Betty Jean Halpin, age 94, of Matamoras, Pennsylvania, formerly of Sparta, New Jersey passed away January 3, 2022 in Hackensack, New Jersey. Betty was born in Port Jervis, NY on July 31, 1927, the daughter of Carl A. and Charlotte Shaffer Bopp. Betty retired as para legal secretary for Irving A. Weber, Attorney At Law in Flanders, New Jersey. Betty was an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newton, NJ and later with St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Port Jervis, NY. She enjoyed music and was member of the Port Jervis Music Study Club and the Keystone Community Club in Matamoras. Betty also enjoyed knitting for her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Karl J. Halpin and his wife Magda of Belleville, New Jersey, her two daughters; Betsy Messerle and her husband Richard of Port Jervis, and Peggy Ann Majos and her husband Ted of Newton, NJ, her beloved grandchildren; Deborah Ann and Stellamaire Halpin, Robert Messerle and Richard Messerle, Jr., and his wife Jessica Bisland-Messerle and their sons, Nicholas and Elijah, one niece and three nephews. Betty was pre-deceased by her daughter, Ronna Jean Halpin , and her two sisters; Ellen Gates and Alberta Maltby. Memorial services will be held 11 AM, Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY.
