Jimmy was almost like a member of the Payne family at Rocky Point Resort. He was their very first customer when they opened the doors of their fishing lodge business and continued coming for over 30 years. As many of us always came during the same week, we kind of all became family. Jimmy always celebrated his birthday there in June, which we always looked forward to the prime rib dinners that night. There are so many stories I could tell. My condolences go out to Jimmy’s wife, family and friends. His Alaskan friends will really miss him too.

One day at Rocky Point Resort, the whole camp was sitting around on the cabin porches. It was a nice day and somebody got this idea to make a group picture with all our empty whiskey and beer bottles. That was around the first time I met Jim Carpenter. Jimmy became an icon at the lodge as he came every year for over 30 years. It always amazed me how he’d jump in a small skiff and ride over six miles from the lodge hunting for salmon or halibut. And he would do that when he was in his 80’s. I always looked forward to seeing Jimmy at the lodge every year and share stories.

Great to see you Mim and all the family, and again so sorry for the loss of Jim. He was larger than life! I’ll always remember the picnics and all the adventures we had that we would not have had if it wasn’t for Dad’s friendship with Jim. I’ll always remember sitting in his lap and convincing him to let Mim have Bozo, as well as his peals of laughter when I told him what I thought Fiddlehead ferns looked like!

Mim, sorry for your loss. Jim (and you) are very good friends of our family and we know Jim is now in a better place. I certainly enjoyed visiting during the past years, the picnics, the antique shop, hunting with Jim, and the stories he told, I often reminisce about those days. Thank you for sharing additional information.
As much as I would like to, I'm sorry I cannot attend the funeral. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you. I will personally send a contribution to Jim's beloved Fire Department. Attaching a photo taken during Mom and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary which includes some of the fellow hunters. As a young lad, I remember once when pheasant hunting, Jim said to me, "Mark, the bag limit is two, so you only need to take two shells". At that moment, I took another handful of shells. Jim was right, I didn't need that additional handful . . . it was two birds with two shells.
