Obituary of Joyce P Wyka

Joyce P. Wyka age 89, of Port Jervis, NY passed away November 24, 2021 in Middletown, NY. She was born on January 12, 1932 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of the late Spencer and Mary Bodine Prothero. After receiving her bachelors degree from college, Joyce dedicated her life to help others as a registered nurse at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was an active and faithful member of the Deerpark Reformed Church since 1937. Joyce was a former consistory member of the church, Sunday school teacher, choir member, past President, past vice president and secretary of the Reformed Church Women’s Organization. She was a delegate to the Regional Synod of New York of the Reformed Church of America, a chairperson of the Spiritual Life and Education Committee and an Ordained Elder Delegate of the Classis of Orange. During her nursing career, Joyce was president for District 18, New York State Nurses Assoc. for several years. Joyce married Tadeusz Wyka, who pre-deceased her. She is survived by her son, Tadeusz Wyka and his wife Dawn of Milford, PA, her daughter, Marianne Besaw and her husband Richard of Scotchtown, NY, her beloved grandchildren; Paul and Mark Besaw, Jennifer Holocher and her husband Josh, and her great grandson, Jace Holocher, her nephew, Toby Davis and his wife Ann and her cousin, Reid Bodine. Joyce was pre-deceased by her sister Phyllis Davis. Memorial services will be held 1 PM, Wednesday, December 1, at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. Rev. Zachary K. Pearce will officiate. Interment of cremains will take place in the spring at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY.
