Obituary of Ethel Dewey Gill

Ethel Dewey Gill, a lifetime resident of the area passed on, peacefully, October 19, 2024 at Belle Reve Senior Living, Milford. She was 95.
The daughter of the late Charles and Charlotte Dewey, she was born on August 28, 1929 in Port Jervis, NY.
After graduating from Port Jervis High School, Ethel began her collegiate education at Orange County Community College then moving on to NY University at New Paltz attaining her Bachelor’s Degree. She would then move on to Plattsburgh University where she would receive her masters degree. Her years in formative education would lead her to a path in education. Ethel taught and retired from the Port Jervis School District after 25 dedicated years.
Ethel was a member of the Retired Teachers Associate and MARTA. She was a former longtime member and Sunday School Teacher at the First Baptist Church of Port Jervis and the Milford Bible Church.
In addition to her parents Ethel was predeceased in life by her husband James Gill, brother Charles Dewey with his wife Mildred, sister Frances Vansickle with her husband Randall and her brother Robert Dewey with his wife Pauline.
Beloved mother of Donna Mitchell with her husband Gene of Matamoras and Deborah Gill of North Wales, PA. Cherished grandmother of Gene Mitchell Jr (Cayla), Jenna Mitchell and Kyle Mitchell (Shelby). Great grandmother of Josie, Hudson, and a great grandson soon to be born.
Mom was a dedicated, loving wife and mother. Her career as a second grade teacher began after earning her degrees while raising two young girls. Mom’s strong faith guided our family and her marriage of 70 wonderful years with Dad. We will miss her very much and take comfort in knowing she is safely home with a heavenly reunion of loved ones.
The family would wish to thank both the staff of Belle Reve and Residential Hospice for their genuine care and support to Ethel in her final years and days. In lieu of flowers they kindly ask that you remember both Belle Reve and Residential Hospice if you wish to honor Ethel’s memory.
A private graveside service will take place at Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville.
