Obituary of Shirley F. Sylchak

Shirley F. Sylchak of Port Jervis died peacefully on October 9, 2024 at St. Joseph's Place, Port Jervis.  She was 93.

The daughter of the late Leo F. and Adelaide McCusker, she was born on December 26, 1930 in Port Jervis.

Shirley worked and retired as a manager from Al's Gals, a haberdashery store that use to be in Port Jervis.  She was a former longtime member of the Hope Evangelical Church of Matamoras and an avid bowler. 

In addition to her parents Shirley was predeceased in life by her husband John Sylchak, grandson Ryan Schafer, sister Lois Mitchell and brother in law Gene Mitchell. 

Beloved mother of Joseph J. Schafer with his wife Donna of Port Jervis and Lynne M. Edwards with her husband Kenneth of TN.  Grandmother of Traci McFeely (Jim), Jacquelyn Schafer, Kenneth Schafer (Ashley), Courtney Edwards (Brian Hickey) and Brooke Csencsits (Jason).  Great grandmother of Makayla & Jaelyn Csencsits, Connor, Gannon & Keegan McFeely, Lucy & Brodie McDermott, Jacob Hickey and Colton & Mason Schafer.  We would be remiss not to mention Shirley's dear friends Candy and Frank Stanzl.  

A celebration of life will be announced in the future.  Following cremation Shirley will be laid to rest with her husband John at Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville.  

The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Joseph's Place for their genuine care and company that they provided to Shirley these last few years.  

Donations may be made in Shirley's memory to either St. Joseph's Place or the Port Jervis Deeerpark Humane Society.
