James “Jim” Shimer age 68 of Matamoras, PA and formerly life long resident of Port Jervis, passed away, Monday, November 1, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Place, Port Jervis, NY. He was born on January 10, 1953 in Port Jervis, NY, the son of Joseph and Irene Winning Shimer. Jim retired from C & D Battery, Inc. in Huguenot, NY as quality control inspector. He also worked as a custodial supervisor for the Port Jervis School District. He was a former member of the Drew United Methodist Church, Port Jervis, a social member of the Roosa-Fleming VFW Post #161, Port Jervis, and a social member of the Tri-State Naval Ship #7241, Port Jervis, a charter member of the Sons of The American Legion #685, Port Jervis. and a life member of MCSON. Though Jim never served our country, he devoted his life to serving our veterans. Jim is survived by his sister, Patricia Heussy and her husband Charles of Port Jervis, his brother John Shimer and his wife Kathy of Huguenot, NY, his aunt Joan Honeyman and her husband Thomas of the Bronx, his long time companion, Helen Abraham of Port Jervis, several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM, Thursday, November 4, at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis. Funeral services will beheld , 10:30 AM, Friday, November 5, at the funeral home. Rev. Amy Garrett will officiate. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY.
