Obituary of Lidiya Chernyshenko

Please share a memory of Lidiya to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lidiya Chernyshenko, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on August 16, 2024 at the age of 88.

She is predeceased by her husband Isay Falkovich and all her siblings in Russia and Kazakhstan.

Lidiya lived a long and at times difficult life and overcame many challenges. What she will be remembered forthe most is her kindness, her easy going and friendly nature and infectious smile, her love of babies, plants and animals and her green thumb that unfortunately her daughter did not inherit.

Lidiya was born in Kazakhstan on Valentines Day in 1936 in a tiny village next to the city of Kyzylorda. Her birth was only registered in May which is why she had 2 birthdays. She grew up on a farm with 3 other siblings and passed down many wonderful stories about her family of beekeepers, hunters and fishermen and her homestead that had an orchard, garden and farm animals.

She graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine and had an adventurous career in the mountains of Uzbekistan looking after cows and sheep. She then followed her older sister to Moscow, Russia in her 20s and changed her career to become a microbiologist. Moscow is where she met her first and second husband and started her family. Not long after the fall of Soviet Union she immigrated to the United States and settled in NYC to reunite with her family.

She leaves behind her son Gregory Cherni from her first marriage and her daughter Yuliya Falkovich from her second marriage, her son in law Justin Wasik and her long awaited and only grandchild Joshua Wasik.
