Obituary of Margaret J. McDowell

Margaret J. Mcdowell "Marty" a lifelong resident of Port Jervis, NY passed away June 21 st , 2024 at the age of 87,  peacefully at her home in Dingmans Ferry, PA.  She was surrounded by her favorite deer, bird, and squirrel friends watching over her.

The daughter of the late Marcus and Viola Hall, she was born on June 25, 1936 in Port Jervis. 

Marty graduated from Port Jervis High school in 1954 and was a member of the VFW post 161 Ladies Auxiliary in Port Jervis for 56 years. She enjoyed spending her time watching the animals from her desk while posting pictures, stories, and playing scrabble. She also was our
family historian spending hours on Ancestry site and keeping everyone up to date with our history. Marty was very proud of her family and one of the last things she said was for us all to love each other.

She is survived by her loving Sister Nancy Somarelli of Huguenot, NY, her 4 loving  sons, Robert Wharton and wife Debbie of Georgia, Mark Wharton and wife Lori, of Summitville, Steven Wharton and Donna of Matamoras, and Frank Reome Jr. and Kelly of Dingmans Ferry,
her 8 grandchildren Valerie, Mark, Jennifer, Christine, Steven, Georgia, Stefanie, and Jonathan and 13 great grandchildren. She had 2 lifelong grade school friends Lillian Houghtelling, Gloria Cuddeback and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday 6/25 at KNIGHT - AUCHMOODY Funeral Home from 10:00AM to 12:00PM.  Following the service interment will take place at Rural Valley Cemetery in Cuddebackville, NY.
