Obituary of Earl F. Walker Jr.

Please share a memory of Earl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Earl F. Walker Jr., a cherished husband, brother, and father passed away on May 12, 2024, at Garnett Medical Center at the age of 84. Born on October 25, 1939, in Valley Falls, NY, Earl was the son of the late Earl F. and Virginia Walker. In addition to his parents Earl was predeceased in life by his brother Richard Walker.

Earl's legacy lives on through the love and memories he leaves behind. He is survived by his devoted wife, Gretel, and his beloved daughter, Kristina, of Long Beach, CA.

He is also remembered fondly by his brother, Robert Walker and his wife Joyce, sister-in-law Joan, nephews Steve, James, David, Matthew and Joseph, nieces Lisa and Michelle and grandniece Amanda.

Earl received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and then went on to receive his master’s degree in chemistry from Penn State University.

Earl's life was filled with a deep love for his family, a passionate man finding joy in music ranging from the rock ‘n roll of the Rolling Stones to the poetic verses of Simon & Garfunkel, his favorite being "Bridge over Troubled Water".  Earl had a contagious laugh and loved a good party. He found joy in the pleasures of conversation, whether engaging in lively debates or sharing a hearty laugh over a joke.

An avid fan of the New York Yankees (a passion inherited from his mother) and “his ladies” the UConn Huskies woman’s basketball.  He was a daily Sudoku and Cryptoquip player, always wanting to keep his mind sharp and active.  But perhaps Earl's greatest joy was found in the company of his family.

Earl loved traveling with his wife Gretel, from Myrtle Beach to cruising or a road trip across the country to see their daughter Kristina.

While Earl excelled in his professional pursuits, including a distinguished career in the pharmaceutical industry with Pfizer in regulatory affairs, his true fulfillment came from the warmth of home surrounded by loved ones. He extended his caring nature and his love of politics beyond his family circle, serving his community on the Port Jervis Common Council and the Port Jervis School Board.

A Celebration of Life to honor Earl's memory is being planned for the latter part of the summer, where friends and family will come together to share stories, laughter, and love. Details will be announced once finalized.

In accordance with Earl's wishes, a private cremation was held at MacLennan Hall Crematorium, Milford.

With inspiration from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, Earl sought the secrets of death in the heart of life, leaving behind a legacy of love that transcends the boundaries of mortality. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who were touched by his love.

May his spirit continue to brighten our lives with the memories of his love, laughter, and unwavering kindness.
