Obituary of Bernard E. Gibbons

Bernard E. Gibbons “Bernie” a lifetime resident of Port Jervis died on December 16, 2023 at home.  He was 79. 

 

The son of the late John J. & Francelia Gibbons, he was born on June 3, 1944 in Port Jervis. 

 

After graduating high school Bernie worked for a short time at Kolmar Labs.  He would then go on to enlist in the US Army serving during the Vietnam War.  Upon returning home he would work as a Communications Specialist with the NYS Police, retiring after many dedicated years.  An avid outdoorsman but known more so for his passion of fishing. 

 

In addition to his parents Bernie was predeceased in life by his wife Norma Jean Gibbons, his brother Gerard Gibbons, sister Mary Ellen VanWagenen and brother in law Richard Savannah.

 

He is survived by his sisters Collen Brown of Panama City, FL and Jean Savannah of Matamoras, PA.  He was a cherished Uncle & Great Uncle to many nieces and nephews.  Dear friend of Gary King, Robert Galarza and Edward Martinez.

 

A cremation will be held at MacLennan Hall Crematorium, Milford.  A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2024 with burial in the family plot at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Jervis.
