James T. Eckart Sr of Port Jervis and lifelong resident of the area died peacefully at home on April 13, 2023. He was 92.
The son of Masie Hendrickson he was born on February 13, 1931 in Middletown, NY.
Jim proudly served our Country with the US Army. He was a retired Heavy Machine Operator with Local 825. Jim was a lifetime member of Tri-State Rod & Gun Club. A devout family man and Christian, he was a Layman for many years at the Pilgrim Holiness Church of Port Jervis.
He was predeceased in life by his wife Lovyon Eckart, son James T. Eckart Jr, son in law George Vanderveer and grandson in law Dennis Horner.
He is survived by his daughters Linda Vanderveer of Harriman, TN, and Karen Dunning with her husband William of Sparrowbush, NY. Donna Benton of SC. Grandfather of Miranda Horner, Jennifer Bensley (Kristen), Louis Hull (Justine), Matthew Hull, George Vanderveer, III (Pinar), James Eckart, III, Ryan Eckart (Gina), and Laura Eckart. Jim shared a love of his country with his great grandson, Bryce Horner, who serves in the USMC. Great grandfather of 13, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Reposing Sunday April 16th from 2 to 5:00PM at the KNIGHT-AUCHMOODY Funeral Home, 154 East Main Street Port Jervis, NY 12771. Funeral Monday 11AM from the Funeral Home. Interment to follow Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush.
