Robert B. Dunn, age 87 of Port Jervis, NY, passed away September 27, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. Bob was born on April 25, 1934 in Port Jervis, NY, the son of James and Ruth Hasbrouck Dunn. He proudly served our country from 1955-1957 during the Cold War in the Third Armored Division, deployed for a year in Hanau, Germany, with the US Army. He was a lifetime member of Most Sacred Heart RC Church and then St. Mary’s RC Church in Port Jervis. Bob was an active member of the Port Jervis Fire Department for 67 years, serving in Excelsior Engine Company #5, where he held the offices of Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, and Captain. Bob went on to serve the City of Port Jervis as Second Assistant Fire Chief (1972-1975), First Assistant Fire Chief (1976-1979) and Chief of Department from 1980-1983. Bob was known for his passion for safety and training of all members of the fire department, and always looking for ways to improve how firefighting was accomplished. He was a life member of the Port Jervis Lodge of Elks, #645, B.P.O.E. and a member of the Metoque Hunting Club. Bob retired as a shift supervisor at The Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Center in New Hampton, NY, after 32 years of dedicated service to the State of New York. He enjoyed boating and spending time at his seasonal home on Lake Champlain in Willsboro, NY. On August 2nd, 1958 Bob married Nancy Jane Roberts Dunn, who survives at home. He is also survived by his two sons; Bruce Dunn and his wife Colleen of Hartland, VT, and Brian Dunn of West Palm Beach, FL; his twin sister, Joan Lawrinait and her husband Donald of Spring Hill, FL, his beloved grandchildren; Addie Hornick and her husband Jackson of Fairfield, VT and Jake Dunn of Windsor, VT, his two great grandchildren; Quinn and Hazel Hornick, and his nephew Robert Boyer of Amsterdam, NY. Graveside services with military honors will be private at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Jervis, with Rev. Matthew Newcomb officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Excelsior Engine Co. #5, Port Jervis Fire Dept., PO Box 1002, Port Jervis, NY 12771.
