John Stangl of Port Jervis, entered into rest on Sunday, December 25, 2022. He was 96 years old.
Son of the late John & Theresa Stangl, he was born on February 17, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY.
John was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater in the US Navy aboard the USS Clark. John worked for many years for L Wagner Moving before joining and ultimately retiring from the Port Jervis School District as a beloved custodian.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Madeline, after many happy years together. He is survived by his beloved companion and best friend, Marion Smith. He is also survived by children: Theresa (Terry) of Pine Bush, John of Massachusetts, Karen of Fort Myers, FL, Dominic (Bobbi) of Westfall, PA and Gina of Halstead, PA. He is further survived by his beloved grandchildren: Teryl, Darren, Patricia, Deneen, Heather, TJ, Christopher, Nicole, Danielle, Olivia and Ryan. He is also survived by his cousin, Frankie Eckmuller. He was also predeceased by his infant daughter, Patricia Stangl, sister, Anna Smith and brother, Sonny Stangl.
Visitation will be held Wednsday from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 East Main Street, Port Jervis, NY. Funeral procession will form Thursday at the funeral home 9:45AM. Funeral Mass 10AM St. Mary’s RC Church in Port Jervis. Interment Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s memory may be sent to the Hospice of Orange and Sullivan.
