George A. Belcher a lifetime resident of Port Jervis died on December 25, 2022. He was 91.
The son of Amos T. and Anne E. Belcher, he was born on November 22, 1931 in Port Jervis, NY.
George proudly served with the US Marine Corps. during the Korean War Conflict. Upon coming home he took up a career as a General Traffic Manager, retiring from VAW of Ellenville, NY. George had an extensive resume when it came to community and civic duties. He was a longtime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, The Port Jervis Chamber of Commerce, Roosa-Fleming VFW Post 161, American Legion James C. Bilz Post, Port Jervis Elks Lodge #645, Neversink Fire Dept. Engine Co 1, Port Jervis Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Port Jervis Little League, The Port Jervis Strategic Planning Group, The Port Jervis Tourism Board, Cable Commission of Port Jervis and the West End Park Committee. George was a longtime City of Port Jervis Councilman which in addition to his named above work earned him a Key to the City bestowed upon him by Mayor Decker in 2019.
In addition to his parents George was predeceased in life by his beloved Linda, his brother Arthur Belcher, brother in law Frank Bell, nephew Timothy Belcher and niece Kelly Belcher.
He is survived by his children Brenda Leek (Roy) of Glen Spey, Lisa Bathgate of Camp Hill, PA, George A. Belcher Jr (Rebecca) of Rock Hill and Kathleen Possemato (Todd) of East Branch, NY. Brother of Jean Bell, and sister in law Gail Belcher. George leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and members of the community to cherish his memory.
Visitation Thursday from 3 to 5:00PM and 7:00 to 9:00PM. Funeral service Friday 11:00AM from the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home 154 East Main Street Port Jervis, NY 12771 the Rev. Mary Buttons officiating. Interment to follow Rural Valley Cemetery.
