Obituary of Joseph M. McCafferty

Joseph M. McCafferty of Sparrowbush died on October 6, 2022.  He was 80.

The son of the late Francis & Margaret McCafferty he was born June 4, 1942 in Allentown, PA. 

Joseph was retired from Port Jervis High School having taught American History for almost 35 years.  During his tenure he served as the president of the Port Jervis Teachers Association, a mentor to those whose career just began and was highly respected by his peers. A man of faith, he was a devout member of St. Joseph’s RC Church, Matamoras. 

On a warm, sunny day, after several days of rain, the finest man we've ever known took his last breath with our mom by his side. He loved his family, his friends, being Irish, Cape Cod, Notre Dame football, Jeopardy, a good book, a crossword puzzle, a Guinness beer, pizza, and a cheesesteak from the Brass Rail in Allentown. He played like a champion for 80 years and has now earned his eternal rest with no pain. If you're lucky to have a dad like ours, you're lucky enough.

Beloved husband of Jo Ann McCafferty at home.  Devoted father of Colleen Corwin of Rock Hill and Sharon Johnson along with her husband Van of Miller Place, LI.  Cherished grandfather of Erin, Brady, Van V, Amelia and Connor.  Dear brother of Mary Haiges and Loretta McCafferty.  Fond uncle to his nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased in life by his parents, son in law Christopher Corwin and his sisters Patricia Fasching and Winifred Kaiser. 

The family will receive guests on Tuesday October 11th from 4 to 7:00 PMat the KNIGHT-AUCHMOODY Funeral Home 154 East Main Street Port Jervis, NY.  Funeral procession will form Wednesday 9:15AM from the funeral home.   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Matamoras, PA.
