Obituary of Susan E. Howard

Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Susan Howard, 62, on June 2, 2022 at home with her family by her side. Sue was born in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of Edwin J. and Agnes Roorda Culver. She spent much of her happy childhood growing up in the family bowling alley, until its sale in 1973. She was a 1977 graduate of Port Jervis High School and went on to complete two years as a photography major at the Rhode Island School of Photography. She had many roles in the local newspaper business and worked at The Gazette in Port Jervis and The Times Herald-Record in Middletown during the past 39 years of her life. During those first years at the Gazette, she met the love of her life, Roger A. Howard, while he was also employed there. They married in June of 1985, sharing their life in the home once occupied by her grandparents. Sue was a dedicated mother to her son, Roger, and was proud to participate in his activities as a Cub Scout, encourage him through his school years, and sit proudly through the many concerts in which he performed as a tenor in chorus. She was an incredibly selfless person, knowing how fortunate she was be able to still enjoy the company of her wonderful and devoted parents. Sue looked for the goodness in everything and the best in every person she encountered. She was the symbol of kindness, generosity, and most of all, unconditional love. Sue was predeceased by her husband, Roger, in March of 2008. She is survived by her son, Roger M. Howard and his wife, Erin of Matamoras, PA; (parents, Edwin J. and Agnes Culver of Port Jervis, NY); brothers, Robert J. Culver of Port Jervis and Ronald E. Culver and his wife, Annette of New Paltz, NY; nephews, Matthew J. Culver of Albany, NY, Eric R. Culver of State College, PA, and Ronald E. Culver Jr. of Katy, TX; brother-in-law, Robert C. Howard (Pam) of Matamoras, PA; sisters-in-law, Patricia Reynolds of Myrtle Beach, NC and Betty Knight (Rick) of Kittanning, PA; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is also survived by her loving furbabies, Mango, Libby and Echo. Sue was predeceased by her special cousin and friend, Linda Brink of Matamoras; and nephew, Corey Kolvenbach. Susan’s family would like to thank ALL of the medical professionals that assisted her through her illness and end of life stages, specifically Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice. At Susan’s request, there will be no viewing. Funeral Thursday June 9th. The family will receive guests prior to services at Matamoras United Methodist Church from 11:00 to 11:25 AM.
