Alfred E. Houghtaling, III, age 78 of Cuddebackville, NY passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 9, 1943 in Warwick, New York, the son of Alfred E. Houghtaling, Jr. and Marjorie Groom Houghtaling. Al retired as a heavy equipment operator with Local 825, Operating Engineers in Middletown, NY. He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, and especially fishing with his grandsons and his friends. He was an active member of the Red Rock Hunting Club, Sparrowbush. Al married Doris Boo Houghtaling on March 18, 1962 and would have celebrated sixty years of marriage. He is survived by his wife Doris at home, his daughter Carol Ann Tunney and her husband John of Sparrowbush, his beloved grandsons; Joseph and Colin Tunney, several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sisters; Carol Ann Houghtaling, and Marjorie Jones and his brother Edward Houghtaling. Al was “Uncle Al” to all who knew and loved him. He was known to be a father to one and a “Dad” to many. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 AM, Saturday, March 5, 2022 at the Sparrowbush Fire House, Sparrowbush, NY. Rev. Amy Garrett will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made Hospice of Orange, Sullivan & Rockland, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
