William "Vasyl" Lenczuk of Glen Spey, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Bon Secours Community Hospital.  He was 66 years old.  

Born on January 12, 1960, in Jersey City, NJ, William was the son of the late Vasyl Lenczuk and the late Kataryna (Pszyk) Lenczuk. He was one of seven children, and grew up in a proud Ukrainian family whose heritage remained at the heart of his life.

After briefly starting college as a young man, William answered the call to serve his country in the United States Navy. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to the classroom with characteristic determination, earning his bachelor's degree and then his Master's in Public Health from Rutgers University. He went on to spend his career in the field of environmental health and safety.

William's connection to the area began in the 1970s, when his family started coming up to Pond Eddy. After years of weekend retreats, he built his own house in Glen Spey with his family in 2006, and in 2024 he and his wife made it their permanent home. In 2015, he established the Shrewd Fox Brewery in Eldred, NY, which he proudly owned and where he welcomed friends old and new.

On October 7, 1990, in Clifton, NJ, William married his beloved wife, Cynthia. Theirs was a true partnership — he always encouraged Cynthia to be involved, through voting and community life, and he lovingly brought her back to her Ukrainian roots and culture, a gift she will carry forward.

William was a man of wide-ranging passions. He loved classical music, was a devoted hockey fan with season tickets to the New Jersey Devils, and ran marathons. He and Cynthia enjoyed ballroom dancing together — and true to form, he even joined a competition.

William is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Lenczuk; his siblings; and several nieces and nephews to whom he was a devoted uncle.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 East Main Street, Port Jervis, NY. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, 10AM at Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 329 High Road, Glen Spey, NY 12737. Burial will follow at Glen Spey Cemetery. A local repass will be determined in the future.
