Richard D. Morgan Obituary

Richard D. Morgan, 83, a lifelong resident of Port Jervis, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Born on February 23, 1943, in Port Jervis, NY, Richard was the son of the late Earnest E. Morgan and the late Viola Morgan.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966, an experience that instilled in him the values of discipline, duty, and quiet honor that would guide him through the rest of his life. After his honorable service, Richard returned home to Port Jervis, where he spent his working life as a dedicated Clerk Typist for the Port Jervis School District, faithfully serving the community he loved until his retirement.

A man of simple, steady pleasures, Richard had a particular fondness for a good meal out — the Milford Diner was his favorite place, where he could be found enjoying the everyday comforts of familiar food, friendly faces, and the unhurried rhythm of small-town life.

Richard is survived by his loving sister, Esther Ostrom; and by many cherished nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Richard was predeceased by his siblings, Betty Wood, Dixey Balmos, Paul Manwaring, Earnest Morgan, Harold Tampier, Lovyon Eckart, and Robert Morgan.

A private committal will take place at the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home of Port Jervis, NY.
