Frank J. Oppelt, 90, of Port Jervis, NY, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Facility in Liberty, NY.

Born on May 14, 1936, in Port Jervis, NY, Frank was the son of the late Frank Oppelt and the late Ellen (Cowell) Oppelt.

Frank proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957, an experience that shaped him as a man of discipline. After his honorable service, Frank dedicated 32 years of his working life to the New York State Department of Transportation, where he served as an equipment operator.

A true outdoorsman at heart, Frank found his peace along the banks of the Delaware River, where he spent countless hours fishing. He was also a gifted and talented woodworker who took particular joy in crafting beautiful, handmade pieces for the people, most especially his family.

Frank was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, May I. Oppelt, who passed in 2024.

Frank is survived by his loving daughter, Kathy, and her husband Michael Hockenberry; his sister-in-law, Josephine M. Canfield of Sparrowbush, NY; his niece, Michele Canfield Robertson, and her husband Scott, and their children Gianna Robertson Wood and her husband Kenny, Lydia Robertson, Adam Robertson, and Ryan Robertson; and his nephew, Michael Canfield Jr. and his family of Glen Spey, NY. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Shelia Oppelt Pflanz, Susan Oppelt Parry, Jerry Swingle, Linda Swingle Kent, Timothy Swingle, Mikie Swingle, Beth Swingle, and Jason Swingle; and by Robyn Hendershot and Mark Hendershot.
