Alberta B. Kalin Obituary
Alberta B. Kalin, 92, of Reston, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Tall Oaks Assisted Living in Reston, VA.
Born on February 11, 1934, in the Bronx, NY, Alberta was the daughter of the late William Albert Brodmerkel and the late Christina Marie (Bosch) Brodmerkel.
On May 23, 1954, in Eldred, NY, Alberta married the love of her life, James Herman Kalin, beginning a devoted partnership that would carry them through a lifetime of adventures together. Over the years, Alberta made her home in many wonderful places — Highland Lake, NY; Avon Park, FL; Port Jervis, NY; Herndon, VA; and finally Reston, VA — each stop adding new memories to a long and well-lived life.
Alberta spent much of her working life in dedicated public service, first with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and later with the Sullivan County Treasurer's Office. A woman of deep and quiet faith, she was a longtime member of the Methodist church.
A true family woman through and through, Alberta cherished the simple pleasures in life. She loved curling up with a good book, tackling a challenging jigsaw puzzle, and tending lovingly to her dogs. She had a special fondness for camping and for the great outdoors, but most of all she treasured every moment spent with her family — whose company was her greatest joy.
Alberta will be remembered as thoughtful, caring, and endlessly giving — a survivor of many illnesses whose family lovingly called her "a tough old bird," a fitting tribute to a woman whose strength, resilience, and devotion to her family knew no bounds.
Alberta is survived by her loving children, Diane Larkin of Herndon, VA; Andrew Kalin of Crossville, TN; William Kalin of Pendleton, IN; and Robert Kalin of Bad Homburg, Germany. She was the cherished grandmother of Michael Larkin and his wife Francis, Ryan Larkin and his wife Dana, Kalyn Larkin, Brian Kalin and his wife Lara, Jean Volff and her husband Josh, Megan Kalin, and Anna Kalin. She was the proud great-grandmother of Joshua Jester, Leah Larkin, Faith Larkin, Aydan Dudley, Damion Larkin, Charlie Kalin, Drew Kalin, Alyssa Kalin, and DJ Kalin — and the beloved great-great-grandmother of Orion Dudley. Alberta is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Weber of Port Jervis, NY; her nephews Fred Weber and his wife Mary Ellen, and Michael Clark and his wife Gayle; her nieces Lisa Tobin, Susan Weber, and Teresa Klinetob and her husband John; and by Susan Kerr, Diana Becerra, Teresa Kalin, and Jeanine Poth, who were dear to her heart.
Alberta was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Herman Kalin; her parents, William and Christina Brodmerkel; her grandsons, Willie Kalin and Jonathon Kalin; her sister-in-law, Reta Clark; her brothers-in-law, Fred Weber and Vernon Clark; her niece, Sharon Clark; and her dear friends, Leo and Joyce Kuen.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Alberta's life on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 East Main Street, Port Jervis, NY. Interment will follow at Glen Spey Cemetery which is reserved for immediate family only.
