Robert G. "Bob" Mason Obituary

Robert "Bob" George Mason, 81, of Port Jervis, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Born on December 13, 1944, Bob was the son of the late Fred Mason and the late Helen Strong Mason.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972, including 13 months stationed in Vietnam. For his honorable service, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. The lessons of duty, loyalty, and service he carried home from the Army would shape the rest of his life.

A devoted public servant in his own community, Bob was a lifelong and proud member of the Port Jervis Neversink Engine #1 Company, where he gave 61 years of faithful service to the fire department and once served as a Past Captain. He worked as Head Mechanic for the Port Jervis City School District until his retirement, where he was known for his skill, his work ethic, and his quiet generosity.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Lyn Mason; his son, Russell George Mason; and his daughters, Senie Marie Mason and Helen Marie Mason. He was the cherished grandfather of Cora Knight Mason, Skye-Lynne Mason Clark, Meadow Elizabeth Reiser, and Logan Mason — who brought him endless pride and joy.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his daughters, Rhonda Wolf and Lyn Marie Mason; his son, Ryan Mason; and his brother, Fred Mason.

A private family committal service will take place at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Jervis.

Arrangements entrusted to the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home of Port Jervis, NY.
