Ernest J. Edwards “Ernie” died unexpectedly at home on April 10, 2026. He was 74 years old.

The son of the late Ida and Kenneth Edwards Sr., he was born on March 11, 1952, in Port Jervis, NY.

After graduating high school, Ernie proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Ernie was employed for over 45 years at a local manufacturing company formerly known as Summit Research Labs. He was a longtime member of the Beaver Dam Hunting Club and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Ernie also gave back to his community as a baseball/softball coach for the Port Jervis Little League.

He was a Life Member of VFW Post 161, a past member of the Howard Wheat Engine Company #4, and was active with the Montague Seniors. Ernie, also known as “Big Ern,” cherished time spent with his wife, particularly their visits to Black Lake in Hammond, New York. Together, they also enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises. Ernie also enjoyed attending his granddaughters’ sporting events throughout the years.

In addition to his parents, Ernie was predeceased in life by his brother, Jeffrey Edwards; his mother-in-law, Virginia “Cookie” Domonkos; and his brother-in-law, Dan Pflanz.

Beloved husband of Linda Domonkos Edwards. Devoted father of Christopher M. Edwards (his wife Jennifer) and Kimberly Johnson (her husband Philip). Cherished grandfather of Isabella and Chloe Edwards. Dear brother of Diane Pflanz and Kenneth Edwards Jr. (his wife Lynne). Fond son-in-law of Robert Domonkos Sr and brother-in-law of Robert Domonkos Jr (his wife Rebecca). We would be remiss not to mention the many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that loved Ernie as well.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, April 18th, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 East Main Street, Port Jervis. A funeral service will commence at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Following services, a private committal will take place at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen.
