Donald E. Elliott Obituary

Donald E. Elliott of Forestburgh died peacefully on March 14, 2026. He was 97 years old.

The son of the late Norah and Edward Elliott, he was born on November 23, 1928 in Queens, NY.

Donald worked for many years as a Licensing Examiner with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles in New York City. In retirement, he remained active in his community and was a member of the Forestburgh Senior Center.

Donald was also a longtime and faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas RC Church in Forestburgh until its closing. His faith and community were important parts of his life.

He shared a wonderful love of travel with his late wife, Irene, and together they visited many places over the years. Their home became filled with cherished mementos from their journeys. If someone ever mentioned a place they were planning to visit, Donald would respond with a story about a time he and Irene had traveled there, fondly recalling the memories they had made together.

In addition to his parents Don was predeceased in life by his beloved wife Irene Bott Elliott.

Dear cousin of Joseph Sweeney (Karen), Anne Earley (the late Thomas), Tee Velasco (Howie), Edward Bott (Rosemarie), Doreen Powers and Brigid McGrath (Micheal) of Ireland.  The family wishes to acknowledge and thank friends & neighbors Robert and Barbara Leone who contributed selflessly to helping ensure Donald lived independently right to the end.

A visitation will take place on Thursday 3/19 from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at the KNIGHT-AUCHMOODY Funeral Home 154 East Main Street Port Jervis, NY. A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated 11:00AM at St. Mary's RC Church, Port Jervis. Immediately following the Mass burial will take place at St. Thomas of Aquinas RC Cemetery, Forestburgh, NY.
