Richard A. Roa Obituary

Richard A. Roa, a longtime resident of the area, passed peacefully at home on October 23, 2025.  He was 78 years old.

The son of the late Armand and Winifred Burcham Roa, he was born on October 15, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY.

Rich lived a life of service and deep connection to family, community, and his passions. A proud U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam War in communications, a skill that defined much of his career. Returning home, Rich started a family and worked for GTE Telephone, later Verizon, where his dedication as a skilled technician earned him the self-styled title of “PGPM” – Pretty Good Phone Man – a playful signature that delighted those who knew him.

After retiring from Verizon, he launched Rich Roa Tech Services, continuing to share his expertise as a self-employed technician, leaving a lasting impression on clients. Alongside his wife, Karen, Rich embraced travel later in life, exploring Spain and spending time in Naples, Florida, though he held a special fondness for Venice, Florida. An active man, he loved walking along the Delaware River, working out to stay fit, and cheering for his beloved New York Giants. Rich was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing baseball and softball in his younger years.  His love for animals shone through in his devotion to his dog, Serini, and cat, Spooky.

A pillar of his community, Rich served as Westfall Town Supervisor, past President and Director of the Milford Landing Property Association, and was a 52-year life member of Port Jervis Elks #645, where he held various committee and officer roles.  Rich had a particular passion for the Veterans Committee, honoring a promise he kept to support. He also served as past Chaplain of the Tri-State Naval Ship and was a life member of VFW #161, American Legion Devore-Quinn Post #486 as well as past Police Commissioner of the Eastern Pike Regional Police, reflecting his lifelong commitment to service and leadership.

In addition to his parents, Rich was predeceased in life by his brother Roger Roa and nephew John Roa.

Beloved husband of Karen S. Roa.  Devoted father of Alan Roa (Meg), Wendy Roa (Ryan Kuhn), and his stepdaughter Tonya Richards (Randy).  Cherished grandfather of Nicholas Fontana (Meagan), Brittney Porter, and Olivia, Cameron, and Jackson Roa, and Brock Richards.  Dear brother of Armand Roa (Kathy).  Fond brother-in-law of Brent, Jeff, and Karl Brundage along with Judy Roa.  Rich was an Uncle both with great and great great nieces and nephews who will miss him.

A visitation will take place on Friday 11/21/25 from 10:00AM to 11:30AM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 East Main Street, Port Jervis NY, 12771.  A Funeral Service will commence 11:30AM at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officiating.  US Army and Elk Fraternal Services will take place at that time as well.  Cremation took place at MacLennan Hall Crematorium.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Milford or Port Jervis Humane Society in addition to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
