David L. Hoffman of Greenville passed away peacefully surrounded by love, at home on October 6, 2025.  He was 83 years old.  

The son of the late Alma and Levi Hoffman, he was born on August 27, 1942 in Port Jervis, NY.  

David lived a life of service, faith, and dedication to his community. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving honorably during the Vietnam Era, emerging as a skilled Electronics Technician. Following his military service, he worked for AT&T while pursuing a Fire Science Degree, which ignited a lifelong commitment to firefighting. David joined the West Point Fire Department, rising to the rank of Captain, and later served as the Fire Coordinator for the Orange County Department of Emergency Services, a role he cherished until his retirement. Never one to stay idle, he continued to serve in retirement as the Assistant Fire & Building Inspector for the Town of Blooming Grove. A lifelong volunteer firefighter, David was a member of the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department, where he also served as past Chief and Commissioner.  Anchored by his faith, he was an active member of the Grace Fellowship Church of Port Jervis, where he found spiritual strength and community.

Beloved husband of Judy B. Hoffman.  Devoted father of Timothy (Corine), Terrance, Darren (Bette Jo) and Jason Hoffman (Vicki).  Cherished grandfather of Sarah, Emily, Jessica, David C. and Sophia Hoffman.  Dear brother of Linda Gunn (Fred), LuAnn Brundage (Ron) and Larry (Diane) Hoffman.  

A visitation will take place on Saturday 10/18 from 1 to 4:00PM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home 154 East Main Street Port Jervis NY 12771.  A Funeral Service will commence 4:00PM at the Funeral Home.  Navy Honors, Firematic Services and prayer led by Pastor Tom Mortenson will take place.  Following services David will be cremated at MacLennan Hall Crematorium.  

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice of Orange & Sullivan 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh NY 12550.
