It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sarah E. Gerle, who left this world peacefully on August 25, 2025 at the age of 88. 

Sarah was born in Middletown, NY, daughter of the late Clyde F. Stratton and Helen Terhune Stratton.

Sarah was a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering love for those around her.

Sarah graduated from the New York Foundling Hospital in New York City and worked as an infant care technician before marrying her husband Fred and devoting her life to raising their family.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Helen (Betsy) Wilkes and her companion T.A. Kolvenbach of Port Jervis, NY; John F. Gerle of Port Jervis, NY; Emily Mehedin and her husband George of Greentown, PA; Mary Kowal and her husband Chad of Cuddebackville, NY and her beloved grandchildren Janelle, Lauren, Austin and Blake. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her siblings Mary Gregory of Mukilteo, WA; Fred Stratton and his wife Jean of Wolf Lake, NY, Susan Curtis and her husband Joseph of Port Jervis, NY, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Fred, her sister Nancy Neely of Beaumont, CA and her brother in law Gregory Gregory of Mukilteo, WA.

A private graveside service will take place at 11:30am on Wednesday, September 3 at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Jervis.
