Alexander Charles “Skip” Melnick, 80, of Port Orange, Florida passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025.
Skip was born on October 12, 1944 in Port Jervis, New York to the late Ada and Alexander Melnick.
At the age of 17, Skip enlisted in the US Navy serving on the USS Okinawa (LPH-3) from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1966.
Skip went on to marry Ann Elizabeth “Betty Ann” in Port Jervis, NY. They were married for 34 years and raised two sons, Alexander Charles Melnick Jr. and Todd Jason Melnick. For 14 years he worked as an engineer for the railroad and concluded his working years as a stationary engineer with Ottisville Correctional Facility.
Skip moved to Florida in 2005 where he met and married his second wife, Jo Ann Mary Melnick. They had 20 wonderful years together before his passing. Skip “Poppy” seamlessly blended with family. Beneath his gruff exterior was a sensitive man who was a steadfast presence in the lives of all who were lucky enough to know him.
Skip had many friends and acquaintances who loved him. He had a generous heart and enjoyed helping others. He was well known for his subtle whit and culinary prowess.
Skip was predeceased by his sister Gigi Melnick, his first wife Betty Ann Melnick, his daughter Lori Ann Melnick, his niece Michelle Innella, and his son-in-law James Lindmeier.
Survivors include his wife Jo Ann Mary Melnick, sons Alexander Melnick Jr. (Kelly), Todd Melnick (Missy), daughter Carol Lindmeier, grandsons Kyle Haight, Alex Melnick (Kayla), Jackson Melnick, Nathan Melnick, granddaughters Hannah Lindmeier, Sophie Lindmeier and Nikki Predmore, great-grandsons Owen Henderson, Levi Henderson and great-granddaughters Quinn Henderson and Maeve Melnick, sisters Charlene “Shy” Innella (Mike) and Denise Tyler (Gerald), and sister-in-law Yvonne Grudzina-Glaser (Bill). He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place 11:30AM Monday July 28th at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis, NY. The funeral procession will form at 11:20AM at the Funeral Home. We will process over to the gravesite as one.
