Obituary of Philip H. Tripken

Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Philip H. Tripken of Glen Spey, NY died peacefully on June 19, 2025 at Deleware Valley Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation.  He was 96 years old.

The son of the late Edna and John W. Tripken, he was born on July 14, 1928 in the Bronx, NY.

Philip H. Tripken lived a life defined by devotion—to his beloved wife of 76 years, Frances (married March 12, 1949 until her passing March 24, 2025), to public service, and to his faith. After they wed, he began his professional life at National Biscuit Company and NY Telephone Co. before answering a higher calling: joining the NYPD in 1957. His dedication merited promotion to Detective, leading to serving with distinction at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office (under Robert Morgenthau) until his 1988 retirement.

A man of quiet strength, Philip was a paragon of patience and virtue—his unwavering commitment to his Roman Catholic faith matched only by his love for family. His inquisitive mind thrived on history and literature; and though his career brought him face-to-face with New York’s complexities, he remained defined by his humble nature and kind smile.

In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased by his brother, John Tripken, and son-in-law, John D. Gormley.

Beloved father of Jo Ann S. Gormley, Douglas D. Tripken Sr.,  and Philip A. Tripken. Cherished grandfather of six and great grandfather of eight.

A Memorial Mass will be announced in the near future.  Please check back for details.

Arrangements entrusted to the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home of Port Jervis, NY.

Please make use of the Tribute Wall by leaving a memory or condolence for the family.
