Obituary of John J. Lewis

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John J. Lewis, 77, of Port Jervis NY, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior on June 11, 2025. John was born on November 24, 1947 and was the eldest son of the late John K. and Mary E. Lewis.

John is survived by his daughter Lisa Johns (Joshua), Brian Lewis and their mother Judith Lewis, brother George W. Lewis (Ginger) and their children Elizabeth Egoy (Pastor Neil Cher), Daniel Lewis (Cheryl), Ruth Wylie, John A. Lewis (Crystal), Mary R. Lewis, Sarah Lewis, Jeremiah Lewis (Jaysharee), brother David R. Lewis (Lanore) and his children Jennifer Kraham (Jim), Jeffrey Lewis (Stephanie) and Mark Lewis. John had many Great Nephews and Nieces.

John's passion in life was pursuing Jesus and for others to know Him as well. In his younger years, he was the singer and bass player of a local band called the CJ’s.  In His 20’s, John surrendered his life to Jesus and used his talents for Him. He loved to sing, play bass guitar and the trumpet.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and water skiing. John was a former member of Pole Bridge hunting club, and worked for MetLife as an insurance agent. John served our country in the Air Force in the Vietnam war and played taps for many veterans throughout the years. John was known for being a light in the community as the owner and proprietor of Lewis Country Market, for almost 30 years.

John’s desire was that his legacy would be one of his love for Jesus and his family, the body of Christ and the lost all over the world as he invested in many ministries, joyfully. From this passion he sought to pray for, encourage, listen and share the gospel of Jesus to anyone he met. He was a faithful part of Milford Bible Church for over 30 years. He served in several ministries over his lifetime including leading worship with many friends (John Mole, Frank Breitweizer, and John Henz, his daughter and nieces among many others), hospital and nursing home ministries and led several Bible studies.

A celebration of life service will be held at Milford Bible Church, in Milford, PA, Saturday, June 28 at 10 am. Luncheon to follow. Donations can be made to Milford Bible Church.
