Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gary L. Babb, a lifelong resident of Matamoras, PA, passed away on June 7, 2025, at the age of 69. Born in Port Jervis, NY, on May 16, 1956, Gary was deeply rooted in his community and dedicated his life to service, family, and hard work.

A 1974 graduate of Delaware Valley High School, Gary was an active student-athlete, participating on both the wrestling and golf teams. His sense of teamwork and discipline carried into every aspect of his life.

For over five decades, Gary served as a proud and committed member of the Matamoras Volunteer Fire Department, holding multiple leadership roles including, Chief of Department, Assistant Chief, and Vice President. He was also a valued member of the department's rescue dive team and rappelling team. At the time of his passing, Gary was proudly serving on the Board of Directors for the department. His calm under pressure, leadership, and willingness to teach and mentor younger firefighters left a lasting legacy in the department and inspired generations of first responders.

In addition to his fire service, in the past, Gary served with integrity as the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director for the Borough of Matamoras, helping coordinate vital responses during emergencies and ensuring the safety of the local community. A skilled craftsman and hard worker, Gary owned and operated Babb Brothers Construction before beginning a 22-year career at Bon Secours Community Hospital, where he was known for his dedication and reliability. In more recent years, he worked with Heal’s Glass, continuing to share his knowledge and work ethic.

Gary’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 49 years, Pamela Babb; his children, Chris Babb and wife Erin, and Candace Bocaletti and husband Luis; and his cherished grandchildren: Madison Talmadge, Taylor, Morgan, and Anna Babb, and Zoe, Sofia, and Isabella Bocaletti. He is also survived by his brother Lyle Babb and wife Sue.  Brother in law of Kevin and Terry DeGroat as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward “Pete” Babb and Elizabeth “Betty” Babb, father and mother in law Frederick and Donna DeGroat, sister in law Jane McKean and his grandson, Angel Bocaletti.

Gary’s legacy is one of unwavering service, deep community ties, and a love for his family that knew no bounds. He will be remembered for his strength, dedication, and the countless lives he touched.

Those who knew Gary remember him as someone who never asked for recognition but gave generously of himself to others. Whether responding to a late-night emergency, fixing a neighbor’s roof, or offering quiet encouragement to someone going through a tough time, he gave from the heart — humbly, selflessly, and without hesitation.

A funeral service will be held 10:00AM Saturday, June 14th, at Hope Evangelical Free Church, 300 1st Street, Matamoras, PA.   The family will receive guests from 9:30AM to 10:00AM prior to services.   A Fire Matic procession with graveside services will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.  A repass will be held afterward at the Matamoras Fire Department.
