Roy Dallas Hemion Obituary

Roy Dallas Hemion, 65 of Port Jervis, N.Y. passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on Monday, May 5, 2025, at White Plains Hospital after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.  Roy was born in Port Jervis, NY on August 12, 1959, to the late Roy Hemion and the late Patricia Ann Hemion.  Roy was a devoted husband to his wife, Merlyn Aurel Hemion and stepdaughter, Khate, who reside in the Philippines.


In addition, Roy was the father to his children; Alicia Hemion, Candice Smith and her husband Josh, Roy Hemion, Justin Hemion, and Kyle Hemion and his wife Robin.  He has several grandchildren and one great granddaughter.


He is also survived by his brother Roger Hemion and his wife Jessica, sister Patricia Mantz and her fiancé George Sauschuck, and brother Dennis Hemion and his wife Michelle.  He has many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends as well.  


Roy was a retired truck driver/operator for Shop-Rite supermarkets as well as a fuel tanker driver for over 20 years.  He also worked in construction and specialized in asbestos abatement.  Furthermore, he was a computer engineer and managed a fast-food chain.  


Roy had several hobbies including ham radio operator, airplane pilot, and avid photographer of all things’ nature.  He enjoyed astronomy and viewed the stars by telescope with his children.  He was a Star Trek fan. He enjoyed building and flying remote-controlled airplanes. He loved music and was a bass guitarist, amateur race driver, Harley Davidson motorcyclist, coin collecting and animal lover.  


Roy was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness along with his wife and stepdaughter.  He belonged to two congregations, the Kingdom Hall in Port Jervis and in the Philippines.  His strong faith was evident even to the end of his life.  He looked forward to God’s promises and spoke of there being no pain or suffering and thatdeath would be no more.  


Roy had a strong will to live.  His mindset was to beat the cancer.  He chose traditional medicine and natural alternatives in hopes to prolong his life and returning to his home in the Philippines with his wife.


Roy experienced health issues for over one year before his diagnosis in January 2024. His strength and courage to fight cancer never ceased. 


He always tried to help others. Very polite and well-spoken. He will be missed by all that were fortunate to know him.


A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 100 Shinhollow Road in Port Jervis; NY on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11 a.m.


The final committal will take place at the Brick Church Cemetery in Spring Valley, NY on Saturday June 14th at 11:00AM.
