Obituary of Joseph R. Byrne

Joseph R. Byrne of Port Jervis died on April 26, 2025 at Garnett Health Medical Center.  He was 77 years old. 

The son of the late Ruth and Robert Byrne, he was born on November 12, 1947 in Norwich, NY. 

After graduating high school, Joe served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he built a long and steady career as a machinist at Kolmar Labs, where he formed lasting friendships. In recent days, news of his decline and now passing brought a common refrain from those who knew him: “He was such a good guy.” Known for his kindness and steady presence, Joe was a devoted father, especially to his son to whom he gave unwavering love.  

In addition to his parents Joe was predeceased in life by his brother Patrick Byrne, sister Carol Hoppey,  brothers in law Joseph Selneck, Gary Decker, Bob Cevasco, Tom Hoppey and sister in law Kathleen Smith.

Beloved husband of Barbara Byrne.  Cherished father of Casey Byrne and Isiah Mandibille (Samantha Ellis).  Dear brother of Cis Sherwood, Beverly Byrne and Charlene Decker.  Fond brother & sister in law of Craig Selneck with his wife Debbie, Bruce Selneck and Carol Byrne.  Joe was an uncle to many nieces and nephews several of which shared a heartfelt relationship with him. 

Arrangements are entrusted to the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home of Port Jervis, NY.
