Walterio Marcial of Matamoras died peacefully at home surrounded by love on March 25, 2025. He was 90 years old.
The son of the late Carmen and Pedro Marcial, he was born on January 6, 1935 in Ensenada, Puerto Rico.
Walterio lived a life of service, faith, and dedication to others. A devout Roman Catholic and active member of St. Joseph’s RC Church, he also served as a longtime brother of the John Paul II Council #13935 (Knights of Columbus). His commitment to duty began in the U.S. Air Force, where he honorably served as a Radiology Technician in Liverpool, England, for four years. After his military service, he earned his master’s degree, which led him to a meaningful career in education—teaching bilingual education and social studies, helping inmates earn their GEDs. He began teaching at Mid-Orange Correctional Facility and later retired from Otisville Correctional Facility, leaving a lasting impact on countless people who were incarcerated but were his students.
In retirement, Walterio embraced life’s joys—golfing was his greatest passion, and he took pride in mastering new recipes, cooking lovingly for his family. Above all, he cherished time spent with his loved ones. Walterio’s legacy of kindness, faith, and service will forever inspire those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Walterio was predeceased by his siblings , Eva, Froilan, Haydee, George and Edgar Marcial and Angela Baez.
