Obituary of Eleanor R. Demmerle

Eleanor R. Demmerle died on February 6, 2025.  She was 87 years old.  

The daughter of the late Harry and Gertrude Schaefer, she was born on September 21, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY.  

She enjoyed the many dedicated years spent working at the Herbert L. Birch Group Home in Brooklyn, from which Eleanor also retired from.  Her family recalls her as the devoted mother and grandmother that she was who loved her family dearly. 

In addition to her parents Eleanor was predeceased in life by her siblings, Loretta DeFillipo, Patricia Buttelman, Henry Schaefer and Carol Wrigley.  

Devoted mother of Charles Demmerle and Deborah Brennen (Fred). Dear sister of James Schaefer (Laura) and Joseph Schaefer.  Beloved grandmother of Theresa Diaz (Dennis Diaz), Brian Demmerle (Cathleen),  Tyler Demmerle, David “DJ” Graves (Amanda) and Sean Graves.   Great grandmother of Jenna, Aiden, Nicholas, Christopher, Daniel & Autumn.  Cherished aunt of Lisa Schaefer and many other nieces and nephews. 

A memorial visitation will take place on Friday April 11th from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the KNIGHT-AUCHMOODY Funeral Home.  Following the visitation a procession will form with final committal taking place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis.
